The UEI Eterna XLR range of remote controls was developed to put an end to replacing remote controls’ batteries. By using energy harvesting, these remote can keep themselves charged for a lifetime.

Xtreme Low Power

The Eterna XLR remote control platform is based on the new UE962 BLE LE chipset that’s 80% more efficient. At the same time it’s more powerful than traditional BLE chipsets. It can run advanced codecs like Opus and supports Bluetooth 5.3.

Ambient light harvesting

The UEI Eterna XLR remote control platform uses ambient light harvesting so that even with power-hungry features such as backlighting, it can operate on a single pair of AAA batteries for years, so the user will never need to worry about replacing them. Indirect sunlight and even lamp light are enough to keep the remote charged.

RF energy harvesting

To collect more energy in addition to the ambient light harvesting, the UEI Eterna XLR employs RF energy harvesting, converting radio waves from sources such as WiFi networks into energy to power the remote. The antenna is integrated inside the remote and does not affect the design in any noticeable way.

PCR plastics

The encasing of Eterna XLR is manufactured using 95% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic, so less plastic needs to be made and less plastic ends up in waste disposal.

Ambient-aware Backlight

Thanks to an ambient light sensor, the UEI Eterna XLR can adjust the backlight to the light level in the room, and switch it off during the day to save energy for the night hours when backlight is really useful.

ATV/RDK multi-platform

Eterna is available in versions pre-integrated with Android TV set-top boxes as well as versions pre-integrated with the RDK Accelerator platform. This flexibility means minimum time-to-market for operators and set-top box makers.

Designed for refurbishment

Eterna XLR is designed for easy disassembly, so when the product is eventually returned, in an automated process it can be split into separate components for recycling or refurbishment and reuse. In our Like New program we have refurbished already millions of remotes for our customers.

Eco packaging

Eterna remote controls are shipped in packaging free from single-use-plastics (SUP-free). The remotes are wrapped in a sheet of biodegradable material. A carton box that holds dozens of them is sealed with paper tape, and a pallet of these carton boxes also uses paper tape instead of materials like nylon tape and shrink-wrap plastic.

HD PV Panel

The UEI Eterna XLR HD features a High-Density PV Panel that with its compact size collects enough energy to keep the remote powered for daily use, even with indoor light. Because it’s so compact it can be mounted on the top side of the remote without making the remote exceedingly big.
